BOSTON - Mitch Moreland doubled in a seventh consecutive game on Thursday, giving the new Red Sox first baseman a franchise record barely two weeks into his Boston career.
David Ortiz last year, Jason Varitek in 2004 and Bill Regan in 1929 all doubled in six consecutive games. No one on the Sox had reached seven before Moreland, however.

Moreland set the record leading off the second inning at Fenway Park against Pirates righty Chad Kuhl.
This would've sounded odd a couple games into the season, because Moreland started the year 0-for-12.
