Old friend Iglesias leads Tigers past Red Sox, 4-1

DETROIT - Eduardo Rodriguez gave up a home run and RBI double to ex-Red Sox shortstop Jose Iglesias in Boston's 4-1 loss to the Tigers on Saturday at Comerica Park.

Jordan Zimmermann pitched six solid innings, and Iglesias and James McCann both homered for the Tigers, who have won the first two games of this four-game series.

Rodriguez, in his first start of the season, allowed four runs and five hits in five innings.

Zimmermann labored early but allowed only one run and four hits. The right-hander struggled last season amid neck problems, and the Tigers are hoping for big things from him in 2017.

Boston led 1-0 after Jackie Bradley Jr.'s second-inning sacrifice fly when Iglesias tied it in the third with a solo shot to left. Iglesias, the slick-fielding shortstop traded to Detroit from Boston in the 2013 trade that brought Jake Peavy to Boston, had only four homers last season.

McCann's homer in the fifth put Detroit up 2-1, and the Tigers added two more runs off Rodriguez that inning.

Justin Wilson pitched a perfect ninth for the Tigers for his first save of the season and second of his career. Francisco Rodriguez, the regular closer, was unavailable after getting four outs the previous day.

The Red Sox lineup, depleted by the flu and shorstop Xander Bogaerts' bereavement leave, was also without right fielder Mookie Betts and DH Hanley Ramirez, both sickened by the flu. Betts returned to the team but didn't play. Ramirez remains in Boston.
