QUOTES

* “Bases on balls and Justin Upton was the difference in this game.” -John Farrell.

* “I’ve still worked tirelessly trying to command the fastball. [It’s] been better lately, so I’m not going to be negative here. I’m going to continue to be positive and work hard and try to find that consistency.” -Henry Owens on his control issues.

* We’re in the third inning where were working through some things and end up in a second and third situation with the two outs. And it’s a pick your poison situation with [Miguel] Cabrera and J.D. Martinez ... Personally don’t like to put guys in a bases-loaded situation, but felt like the way he worked through the first at-bat to Martinez -- and I know he struck out both guys first time through -- but part of that is understanding the hitter, Cabrera, who is so good in those situations.” -Farrell on electing to walk Miguel Cabrera to face J.D. Martinez with the bases loaded.

* “He’s getting the bat head to some pitches they were attacking him with. He had some breaking balls coming down and in...A good-looking hitter as we’ve talked about and today it was on display.” -Farrell on Andrew Benintendi’s 2-for-4 performance.

* “I’ve got to finish innings with two outs.” -Owens on the third inning.
