The starting goalie matchup always is a hot topic entering the Winter Classic, and 2019 is no different.

The Boston Bruins have received excellent performances from backup goalie Jaroslav Halak in his first season with the team, and you could even make a strong case he's played better than starter Tuukka Rask.

Rask, however, will get the start in net when the Bruins battle the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2019 Winter Classic at Notre Dame Stadium on New Year's Day. B's head coach Bruce Cassidy announced his decision Monday.

This will be Rask's second Winter Classic start. He also got the nod in 2016 when Boston hosted the Montreal Canadiens at Gillette Stadium. Rask gave up five goals on 30 shots as the Bruins lost 5-1.

The Blackhawks will start Cam Ward in net. The veteran goalie a 6-6-4 record with a .886 save percentage and a 3.90 GAA in 17 games played this season. This will be Ward's first Winter Classic start.

The 2019 Winter Classic is Tuesday on NBC at 1 p.m. ET.
