Blues' Carl Gunnarsson called his Game 2 winner while ‘having a leak'

Hockey players are just like us: Sometimes they do their best thinking in the bathroom.

Carl Gunnarsson played hero for the Blues in Game 2 on Wednesday night, scoring in overtime to lift St. Louis to a 3-2 win over the Boston Bruins that tied the Stanley Cup Final at 1-1.

In his postgame speech to the team, Blues coach Craig Berube revealed that Gunnarsson essentially predicted his game-winner before the overtime period ... while taking a leak.

"I go in there and take a leak," Berube said. "Gunny comes up, sitting beside me having a leak, (says) 'All I need is one more chance.' "

Gunnarsson promptly made himself look like a whiz, beating goaltender Tuukka Rask with a strong shot from the blue line for his first postseason goal in 10 NHL seasons that gave the Blues their first Stanley Cup Final win in franchise history.

Talk about a sigh of relief.

"Yeah, I can’t deny that. That’s where it happened," Gunnarsson said of his urinal conversation with Berube, via TSN. "It makes it even more fun, I guess."

The Bruins, meanwhile, will need to wash their hands of their first postseason loss since April 30 as they head to St. Louis for a pivotal Game 3 on Saturday night.
