Sports stars: They're just like us.
Jarome Iginla is a six-time NHL All-Star and two-time Olympic gold medalist, but for one Boston TV station covering Saturday's snowstorm, he was just another commuter to interview.
So when FOX 25 happened across Iginla at a rest stop in Lexington, they asked him about the weather, with apparently no idea that he played for the Bruins during a 20-year career.
“I like the snow, I like the winter, but not necessarily this. May be a little too much,” Iginla said. “We’re from Canada, so it’s not too crazy. I mean we got some winter tires. Used to this growing up so, it’s not great, I’ll tell you, you get some tough stretches, but if you don’t go too fast it’s doable.”
No questions about hockey. No acknowledgment that he was recently selected to the Hockey Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility. Just Jarome Iginla, local driver dealing with the snow.
After retirement, Iginla settled down in the Boston area where he coaches his children, and while he only played in Boston for one season -- a 30-goal campaign in 2013-14 -- seeing him give a random quote about the weather was a priceless sight.
