Boston Bruins defenseman Kevan Miller retired from the NHL on Wednesday.

The 33-year-old veteran underwent multiple knee surgeries over the last couple years but showed great perseverance in battling through those setbacks to return to game action during the 2020-21 season.

Miller's playoff run was cut short in Game 3 of the Bruins' first-round series versus the Washington Capitals when defenseman Dmitry Orlov hit him up high. Miller suffered a concussion and didn't return to the lineup.

Why Carlo's new contract with Bruins is huge win for both sides

Several Bruins players have reacted to Miller's retirement, including defenseman Charlie McAvoy in an Instagram story

Check out McAvoy's heartfelt reaction to the news in the post below:

McAvoy was a teammate of Miller's for four seasons. The Bruins reached the playoffs in each of those years, including a run to Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final in 2019.

Miller's departure leaves the Bruins needing a little more physicality on the blue line. McAvoy is one person who can help fill that void next season.
