Bruins' Chris Wagner: Instagram jab at Kyrie ‘wasn't anything malicious'

Noted Boston sports fanatic Chris Wagner, the Walpole native and Xaverian Brothers High School grad now playing for his hometown Bruins, told reporters after Tuesday's overtime win over the Hurricanes that he didn't mean anything by his Instagram jab at Celtics star Kyrie Irving that made headlines earlier in the day -- and that he'll be watching his beloved Celtics, who are in the Bay Area to face the Golden State Warriors late-night in prime time, as soon as he got home.

Commenting on an Instagram post from ESPN's account quoting Irving about how his disdain for the attention that comes with being such a high-profile celebrity, Wagner wrote in the comments section, "Ya Uncle Drew must not use cameras," tagging a friend of his with the sarcastic jab.

"I was just making a joke with my buddy. I didn’t think anyone would see it," Wagner told reporters. "I mean, I’m gonna go watch them when I get home. I have the utmost respect for him [Irving]. He’s making money doing other stuff than basketball — which, I probably wish I could too."

Wagner said he was taken aback by how much attention the post got.

"Yeah, I definitely didn’t see that coming," he said. "I wish I never did it, because it’s probably been taken the wrong way. I have a group text of guys from home, we talk about Boston sports. No, I definitely wasn’t chirping him."
