Boston Bruins defenseman Charlie McAvoy's stellar performance of late was rewarded by the NHL on Monday.
The league announced its top three stars of the week, and McAvoy was named the No. 2 star.
The 23-year-old blueliner posted seven points (two goals, five assists) in four games last week, which tied for the lead among all defensemen. He tallied three assists in Saturday's win over the New Jersey Devils and scored twice in a victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Sunday night.
Washington Capitals left wing Alex Ovechkin was the No. 1 star of the week and Anaheim Ducks right wing Troy Terry was the No. 3 star of the week.
The Bruins went 3-1 last week, with their only loss coming to the high-scoring Edmonton Oilers. McAvoy's offensive production and excellent defense were key factors in Boston's success over the last seven days.
He has tallied 12 points (three goals, nine assists) in 13 games overall. McAvoy already is among the early contenders for the Norris Trophy.
