Nick Foligno receives special honor for 1,000th game in NHL

Nick Foligno will have something extra on his sweater when the Boston Bruins play the Chicago Blackhawks on Tuesday night.

Foligno, who'll become the 364th player in NHL history to appear in 1,000 regular season games, will have an 'A' on his jersey for the game as an alternate captain for B's as they go for their 10th win in their last 12 games.

Would P.K. Subban make sense as trade deadline acquisition for Bruins?

It's just the 43rd game for Foligno in black and gold, of course, after he signed with the Bruins in the offseason on a two-year, $7.6 million deal. Foligno, 34, has two goals and nine assists for 11 points in 2021-22 while playing mostly left wing on Boston's third and fourth lines.

Originally selected in the first round (28th overall) by the Ottawa Senators in the 2006 NHL Entry Draft, Foligno has played for the Sens, Columbus Blue Jackets and Toronto Maple Leafs prior to joining the Bruins. Over his first 999 games, Foligno has 205 goals and 292 assists for 497 points.

Foligno is the 10th player to skate in his 1,000th NHL game this season, a list which includes two former Bruins in Blake Wheeler and Loui Eriksson.

Foligno's father, Mike, played in 1,018 games in the NHL himself from 1979-94 with the Detroit Red Wings, Buffalo Sabres, Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers.

Foligno's brother, Marcus, is at 658 career games since debuting in 2011 for the Buffalo Sabres. Now captain of the Minnesota Wild, the Foligno brothers will face off on Wednesday night when the Bruins continue their road trip in St. Paul.
