The Boston Bruins are four wins away from playing for the Stanley Cup, and the last remaining Eastern Conference opponent standing in their way is the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Bruins and Hurricanes will play Game 1 of the 2019 Eastern Conference final Thursday night at TD Garden.
The B's reaching this stage of the Stanley Cup playoffs is no surprise. They were among the best teams in the league during the regular season and have a roster with loads of postseason experience. They defeated a very good Toronto Maple Leafs team in seven games in the first round before eliminating the Columbus Blue Jackets in a six-game second-round series.
The Hurricanes, meanwhile, were not expected to win a round, let alone advance to the conference final. The 'Canes upset the defending champion Washington Capitals in a seven-game first-round series, and then swept away the New York Islanders in the second round.
This is the third time these teams have met in the playoffs since the Hurricanes franchise relocated from Hartford before the 1997-98 season. The Bruins beat the Hurricanes in the first round in 1999, and Carolina defeated Boston in the second round in 2009.
