The Boston Bruins have been pushed to the brink. Trailing the series against the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2, they need to win each of the next two games to advance to the second round of the 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs. And that starts with Game 6 in Toronto.
The Bruins struggled to score in their Game 5 loss to the Maple Leafs, as they failed to score until late in the third period with an empty net. On the defensive end of the ice, Tuukka Rask held up well for most of the game, but ultimately gave up a couple of goals that were just enough for the Maple Leafs to get by.
Of course, there was a controversial non-call regarding goaltender interference against Rask. That could have had an impact on the end result of the game, and both Rask and Bruce Cassidy spoke about the referee's decision after the game.
The Bruins will be battling against history in their bid to advance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Per to the NHL, the winner of Game 5 owns an all-time series record of 205-55 (78.8%) when a best-of-seven series is tied 2-2. Their attempt to break the pattern will start on Sunday.
