Bruins: Zdeno Chara out for Game 4 vs. Hurricanes

Share

In a surprising turn of events, Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara will not be suiting up for their Game 4 matchup with the Carolina Hurricanes. Chara is apparently dealing with an injury. He didn't warm up with the team, per our own Joe Haggerty.

The Bruins' official Twitter account listed Chara as "day-to-day," but they didn't offer any sort of injury update or reason for him sitting.

Chara, 42, has appeared in all 16 of the Bruins' playoff games this year. He has logged three points and has a plus-11 rating, good for first among all Bruins, and has averaged roughly 22:30 time on ice during this postseason run. Needless to say, he will be missed.

With Chara out, it appears that John Moore will re-enter the lineup after skating in warm-ups. Moore played in four games of the Bruins' series against the Toronto Maple Leafs, but he struggled, logging a minus-4 rating before missing time with an upper body injury. In the regular season, Moore logged 13 points and had a plus/minus of zero.

We'll know more about Chara's long-term status after the game on Thursday. The Bruins, up 3-0 on the Hurricanes, go for a series sweep in tonight's 8:00 p.m. contest. You can stream the game on the NBC Sports app.
