The Boston Bruins have played four games on May 21 in their history, including two wins that came in exciting fashion.

The first was Game 4 of the 1978 Stanley Cup Final, when the B's were hosting the defending champion Montreal Canadiens at the old Boston Garden. Boston forward Gregg Sheppard opened the scoring just 25 seconds into the first period. Montreal battled back and took a 2-1 lead in the second period, only for the B's to regain the lead in the third frame. The Bruins seemed destined for a regulation win until Canadiens forward Guy LaFleur scored with 33 seconds remaining in the third period to force overtime.

The other Bruins victory on May 21 came against the New York Rangers in Game 3 of the 2013 Eastern Conference semifinals.

The Bruins were trailing 1-0 in the third period until defenseman Johnny Boychuk got his team on the board at 3:10 of the frame. Boston went ahead with 3:31 remaining in regulation when veteran forward Daniel Paille beat Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist. The Bruins held on for a 2-1 win to take a commanding 3-1 series lead. Boston eliminated New York in five games to reach the conference finals for the second time in three seasons.
