David Pastrnak injury: Bruins winger to miss at least two more weeks

The NHL trade deadline dominated the hockey news cycle Monday and the Boston Bruins contributed to that by making another deal, but general manager Don Sweeney also took time to provide an update on injured forward David Pastrnak.

Sweeney said Monday at a press conference Pastrnak will be out of the lineup for at least another two weeks.

"He'll be in the cast for two more weeks, and then after that -- he started skating today -- he'll be fitted for a splint and it's just a matter of comfort," Sweeney told reporters. "He won't have any restrictions at that point in time."

Sweeney added: "He's going to be working with a splint or a brace ... But he's a tough kid who wants to play hockey. You already saw him skating today. First thing he said to me was, 'I'll be back sooner than what anybody expects.' I think he'll be perfectly fine. It'll be a little different just because he's had a procedure done, but he'll get past that. He'll be fine. I just spoke to the doctor today and he feels great about where David's at."

Pastrnak has been sidelined since Feb. 12 with a thumb tendon injury that required surgery.

The 22-year-old right winger still leads the Bruins with 31 goals scored and ranks second on the team in points with 66 despite missing the last six games with this injury.

Sweeney also announced the Bruins' trade for New Jersey Devils forward Marcus Johansson in exchange for two draft picks.
