It's unclear whether the Boston Bruins are in on the Jack Eichel sweepstakes, but the Buffalo Sabres' star center would be open to a homecoming.
The North Chelmsford, Mass. native only fueled speculation about potentially joining the Bruins during his recent interview with Boston 25 News' Sara Underwood. Asked if he "could ever see himself in Boston," Eichel entertained the idea.
"I think every kid grows up dreaming of playing for their hometown teams," Eichel said. "Whether that happens now, later in my career … whenever, who knows, if it ever happens. It would be pretty cool, but who knows what’s gonna happen here in the next little bit."
Eichel is the biggest name on the NHL trade rumor mill this summer. Last month, Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reported trade talks involving Eichel were "getting more intense." The 24-year-old has five years left on his deal with a $10 million annual cap hit.
A herniated disk in Eichel's neck limited him to 21 games in 2020-21. The six-year veteran tallied 36 goals and 42 assists in 68 games the previous season with Buffalo.
