Julian Edelman to be Bruins' fan banner captain for Game 7 vs. Leafs?

Will a three-time Super Bowl champion fire up fans at TD Garden before the Boston Bruins host the Toronto Maple Leafs in Tuesday night's Game 7?

Yes, Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman got the honor.

Before each home playoff game, the B's have a fan banner captain wave a giant flag before puck drop. These honorary captains include community heroes, Bruins legends, great players from other Boston teams, etc.

Edelman made his fan banner captain debut Tuesday night when the Bruins played the decisive game of their first-round Stanley Cup playoff series. The B's didn't make an official announcement on who will be the Game 7 fan banner captain, but they've dropped a few clues that suggested Edelman was the choice.

The Super Bowl LIII MVP made his debut for the Patriots in the same season (2009) as Marchand, so clue No. 2 checks out. Edelman is a three-time Super Bowl champion, which fits clue No. 1. He went to Kent State in Ohio, which satisfies the final clue.

Edelman was at Boston College on Tuesday catching passes from Patriots quarterback Tom Brady, so he's in the Boston area. He also posted this photo to Instagram around 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday:

All signs pointed toward Edelman.

He would have a tough act to follow, too. Celtics legend Tommy Heinsohn was the fan banner captain for last season's Game 7 between the Bruins and Leafs. The B's won 7-4.
