Kevan Miller among expected absences at start of Bruins training camp

BRIGHTON, Mass. — The Bruins will start the on-ice portion of NHL training camp with less than full participation on Friday morning at Warrior Ice Arena.

B’s defensemen John Moore (shoulder surgery), Kevan Miller (fractured kneecap) and forward Joakim Nordstrom (fractured foot) have already been ruled out from skating with the group on Friday, and it could be a while before any of those players get skating. In addition, veteran players like Matt Grzelcyk and Patrice Bergeron (groin) may also be eased in by skipping the opening on-ice portion of camp as they bring everybody along slowly after last season’s long playoff run.

“John Moore and Kevan Miller will not hit the ice. Brandon Carlo and Charlie McAvoy obviously if they’re not here they won’t hit the ice,” said Cassidy with a smile. “Nordstrom I don’t believe will skate with the team [on Friday]. He’ll go before.

“There may be a couple of decisions on guys in the morning as to whether they’ll skate. Bergeron is getting back up to speed and I think Grzelcyk was skating on his own. We’ll see how they’re doing tomorrow. We know what they’ve got, obviously, so we’re not concerned about pushing them if they’re not ready for a heavier workload.”

Bruins prospect Cameron Hughes figures to be out as well after sustaining a significant facial injury during the Prospects Challenge in Buffalo last weekend, and 2016 first-round pick Trent Frederic was also dealing with a bit of an injury issue during last weekend’s tourney.

Here’s the expected roster for NHL training camp starting with on-ice sessions on Friday at Warrior Ice Arena with the aforementioned bodies expected to be missing at the outset:
