Morning Skate: Coming this summer, second-chance Karlsson Derby

Share

Here are all the links from around the hockey world, and what I’m reading, while never underestimating the meaning behind a protective boot.

*It would have taken a mammoth deal for Erik Karlsson to move ahead of the Monday trade deadline and that deal never fully materialized for Ottawa. But for all of those teams that missed out on the Ryan McDonagh sweepstakes and, yes that means the Bruins as well, Karlsson is going to be back up on the trade block come this summer at the draft. So, get your best assets ready and clear off some cap space, and this two-time Norris Trophy winner could be yours.

*The first NHL trade deadline day for the new general manager of the Buffalo Sabres was a pretty big dud and that includes only getting a second-round pick for Evander Kane.

*Larry Brooks details a bold, risky strategy by the New York Rangers to really shed a big part of their established roster with a team that still could have made the playoffs, and instead really rebuild it the right way to get a truly competitive team.

*Pro Hockey Talk has the details of Canadiens captain Max Pacioretty opening up about some difficult days in Montreal with the Habs.

*It sounds like there is an HBO piece that is going to delve pretty deeply into the concussion issue with the NHL.

*For something completely different: Got to give some love to FOH (Friend of Haggs) Bish for his piece on"Star Wars Rebels".
