The Boston Bruins locked up a talented young defenseman for three additional seasons Monday.

The Bruins and 24-year-old blueliner Connor Clifton have come to terms on a three-year, $3 million extension.

Clifton still has another year remaining on his current contract, so this extension will begin in the 2020-21 season and run through the 2022-23 campaign.

Clifton played in 19 regular season games for the Bruins in 2018-19, tallying one assist and 22 shots on goal with 17:42 of ice time per game. He appeared in 18 of the Bruins' 24 Stanley Cup playoff games and tallied five points (two goals, three assists) and 11 shots with 13:17 of ice time per game. Clifton primarily played a third-line role for Boston.

The Bruins have more contractual work to complete on their blue line. Charlie McAvoy and Brandon Carlo both need new contracts as restricted free agent defensemen.
