The Montreal Canadiens were dominated by the rival Boston Bruins in a 5-1 loss at TD Garden on Wednesday night, and there might be more pain on the way.

Canadiens defenseman Chris Wideman will have a hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety for headbutting Bruins forward Erik Haula, the league announced Thursday.

Here's a replay of the incident, which happened in the third period with the Bruins leading 4-1.

Anywhere from one to three games would be a reasonable suspension for Wideman. The league did not offer him an in-person hearing, so it's hard to imagine a lengthy ban being on the table.

The Canadiens are back in action Thursday night versus the Chicago Blackhawks, so we might get a decision from the league later today.

The Bruins also return to the ice Thursday night when they host the Philadelphia Flyers.
