With Tom Brady gone, Zdeno Chara Boston's oldest athlete - by a lot
With Tom Brady joining the Buccaneers in free agency, it doesn't just mean that the Patriots are losing their quarterback after 20 seasons, it also means there's only one 40-year-old athlete still active on the Boston sports scene.
Zdeno Chara, who celebrated his 43rd birthday Wednesday, was already the oldest active player in the NHL. Now he's more than six years older than any other Boston athlete, and just about seven years older than any other Boston athlete who's likely to play again. (Sorry, Dustin Pedroia.)
Chara, who is 4 1/2 months older than Brady, is still going strong in his 22nd NHL season after debuting way back in November 1997.
