Zdeno Chara salutes Tom Brady: 'He's a true professional, and a great human being'

BOSTON – Zdeno Chara had Tom Brady narrate a “Made For This” pump-up video on his Instagram account leading into Monday night’s Game 1, and it got a massive social media reaction, much as everything the New England Patriots quarterback does gets a legend-sized reaction.

The 42-year-old Bruins captain expanded on his relationship with the Patriots signal-caller during Tuesday’s off-day between Game 1 and Game 2 of the Cup Final, and admitted that he admires Brady for the level he’s been able to maintain into his 40’s.

“I can only speak for myself, but we all admire what he’s been able to accomplish with the Patriots, and the whole organization and all the team and players, and the coaching staff obviously. They’ve been doing this for decades on top of their game. But as far as Tom, of course it’s not a secret that he’s one of those world athletes that everybody is going to look up to,” said Chara. “He’s been very successful at what he does and how he prepares himself. He’s a true professional and a great human being, and he’s very smart, well-spoken. I only have great experiences when I’ve talked to him. For sure, I really admire him.”

It certainly sounds like Chara likes everything about TB12, and who could really blame him?

A hard-working winner like Chara is naturally going to have an affinity for a guy like Brady with his six Super Bowl titles and an organization in the Patriots that just keeps on sustaining winning excellence with Brady, Bill Belichick and an ever-changing cast of characters. But it’s also interesting to note that Chara has upped his social media game and opened up his personality ever so slightly after watching Brady do it to great success over the years, and sort of map out a blueprint for established star players and team leaders like Chara to do the same thing.

Now the only question is whether the bond is strong enough between Chara and Brady, a couple of 40-something iconic Boston sports legend bosom buddies, to get No. 12 to one of these Stanley Cup Final games at TD Garden to be a Bruins banner captain. He’s one of the few big names left on the list that hasn’t made a visit to Causeway Street for one of the home B’s playoff games this spring, and his mere presence would blow the roof off the place.
