Will Bucs consider trading Brady? Arians gives definitive answer

Tom Brady's retirement announcement didn't put an end to the speculation about his NFL future. It fueled it even more.

The legendary quarterback didn't rule out an eventual return when asked about it by his "Let's Go!" podcast co-host Jim Gray. That led many to believe Brady will be back next season, perhaps in a new uniform. Brady's hometown team, the San Francisco 49ers, have been mentioned as a potential trade destination.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Bruce Arians dumped cold water on those trade rumors on Tuesday. Speaking to reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, Arians was asked whether he'd grant Brady a trade if he wanted to return and play for another team.

"Nope," Arians answered. "Bad business."

What would it take for the Bucs to entertain offers for the seven-time Super Bowl champion?

"Five (first-round picks). Maybe."

Arians added Brady "slammed the door shut" on a return next season when he spoke with him. However, the 44-year-old didn't dismiss the idea of playing in 2022 when asked about it in an interview Tuesday morning.

If Brady does decide to put retirement on hold for another year, he'll pick up where he left off as an NFL MVP favorite. He finished as the runner-up for the award last season after throwing for a career-high 5,316 yards and 43 touchdowns.

The Bucs will keep the door open in case Brady has a change of heart.

"Whenever Tom wants to come back, he's back," Arians said. "If Tom wants to come back, we'll have plenty of money for him."
