C's take Pepperdine star in ESPN's new 2021 NBA Mock Draft

The Boston Celtics don't have a first-round pick in the 2021 NBA Draft after trading it to the Oklahoma City Thunder in a deal involving Kemba Walker and Al Horford, among other parts.

But the C's could still come away with a useful player from the second round.

ESPN expert Jonathan Givony recently unveiled his new 2021 NBA Mock Draft, and he projects the Celtics to select Pepperdine wing Kessler Edwards with their second-round pick (No. 45 overall).

Edwards averaged 17.2 points and 6.8 rebounds in 27 games for Pepperdine last season. He also shot 37.8 percent from 3-point range and 87.6 percent from the free throw line.

Three areas the Celtics must address before next season begins are bench scoring, outside shooting and perimeter defense. Edwards could potentially address all three of those needs.

That said, there might not be enough minutes for another young rookie on this C's roster. The Celtics already have a bunch of recent draft picks who need more minutes to take the next step in their development, including Grant Williams, Aaron Nesmith, Payton Pritchard and others.

If the Celtics keep this No. 45 pick, taking the best player available would be the best strategy. If Edwards is still on the board at that point, he'd probably be among the top prospects available given his intriguing two-way skill set.
