Al Horford left the Boston Celtics to join the rival Philadelphia 76ers in NBA free agency, but he took some time Wednesday to say goodbye and thank you to Boston, C's fans and the organization itself.
Horford posted the note on Twitter:
Horford spent three seasons in Boston after signing a four-year max contract with the franchise in the summer of 2016. He helped lead the C's to the Eastern Conference finals in 2017 and 2018. Horford was an exceptional leader and defensive player for the C's, and he earned an All-Star nod in 2018.
Horford averaged 13.6 points and 6.7 rebounds, while shooting 36 percent from 3-point range for the Celtics last season.
The 33-year-old forward/center declined the player option in his Celtics contract to sign a four-year deal worth $109 million with the 76ers earlier this month. The Celtics reportedly offered him a four-year contract.
