All-NBA team 2019: Kyrie Irving makes second team as lone Celtics player

Share

Kyrie Irving had arguably the best regular season of his NBA career and was rewarded as such.

The Boston Celtics guard was named to the All-NBA second team Thursday, joining guard Damian Lillard, forward Kawhi Leonard, forward Kevin Durant and center Joel Embiid.

Here are the full first, second and third teams:

It's the first time Irving has earned second-team honors and the second time he's made All-NBA (third team in 2015). He's the first Celtics player to make the All-NBA second team since Isaiah Thomas in 2017.

No other Celtics players received any All-NBA votes.

The 27-year-old averaged 23.8 points per game to go along with a career-high 6.9 assists per game over 67 contests. He shot 48.7 percent from the field, the second-highest total of his career behind last season.

Irving's on-court stats were a bright spot in anotherwise turbulent season for the Celtics guard, who after promising to re-sign in Boston is now reportedly mulling his options in free agency.

Ironically, one of his fellow second-teamers is Durant, who's been rumored along with Irving to sign with the New York Knicks or Brooklyn Nets this summer.
