The Boston Celtics enjoyed a large amount of success in the 2010s: Nine playoff appearances, one trip to the NBA Finals, and three other appearances in the Eastern Conference Finals. Entering the final weeks of the decade, Boston had posted a 451-346 regular-season record (.566 winning percentage) while adding a 60-55 mark in the playoffs.

Alas, for a team defined by its 17 championship banners, the lack of a new flag is as notable as what Boston accomplished.

The Celtics overflowed with individual talent this decade, from the Big Three era to the Isaiah Thomas eruption to the Kyrie Irving experiment and, now, with Kemba Walker and Gordon Hayward at the helm of a young roster with aspirations of competing for Boston’s next title.

While compiling our All-Decade team, we decided to embrace one of the NBA’s biggest trends in the 2010s: Position-less basketball. Sure, Kevin Garnett might not have liked playing the center position but that’s where he lands on our team so that we can squeeze in an extra guard.
