BOSTON — The Boston Celtics shattered their franchise record for 3-pointers in a game — and nearly matched an NBA record — by connecting on 24 triples during Thursday’s 117-113 triumph over the Milwaukee Bucks at TD Garden.
Six different players hit multiple 3-pointers including Kyrie Irving (6), Marcus Morris (5), Al Horford (4), and Gordon Hayward (3).
A Morris triple with 1:52 remaining in the third quarter tied the team’s previous record of 19 in a game. Next trip down, Morris helped the Celtics break the record off a feed from Hayward.
Boston became only the seventh team in NBA history to make at least 24 triples in a game, but had a deluge of 3-point misses late in the fourth quarter preventing them from tying the league record — and allowing the Bucks to make things interesting at the finish line.
The Cleveland Cavaliers made 25 3-pointers against the Atlanta Hawks on March 3, 2017.
The Celtics entered the night ranked 16th in 3-pointers made per game (11) and 24th in 3-point percentage (32.8 percent). They finished 24 of 55 beyond the arc (43.6 percent).
The only one of Boston’s nine players without a 3-pointer was Marcus Smart.
