Hayward has supportive message for Cowboys QB Dak Prescott

When Dak Prescott went down with an ankle injury Sunday, he became the newest member of a club nobody is clamoring to join: athletes who have suffered gruesome injuries during games.

From Alex Smith to Joe Theismann, the list is unfortunately long. And one man who knows what Prescott is going through has already reached out to the Cowboys QB with a message of support.

Gordon Hayward, who suffered his own devastating ankle injury in his first regular-season game after signing with the Celtics as a free agent in 2017, took to Twitter to send Prescott some encouraging words.

Hayward has previously talked about how Paul George texted him in the immediate aftermath of his injury, offering words of encouragement based on his own experience with a serious knee injury -- so Hayward is trying to pay it forward with Prescott, who suffered a compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle Sunday against the Giants.

The road to recovery will be a long one for Prescott, who already had surgery on his ankle -- but it should be comforting to know that he has a support system in other athletes like Hayward who have experienced similar fates.
