BOSTON -- The team meeting the Boston Celtics held following their loss to Milwaukee on Friday was continued the following day according to head coach Brad Stevens.
“Everyone has team meetings all the time,” Stevens said. “But, some are obviously more impactful, more transparent, a little bit more raw than others. Those are probably the most memorable, enjoyable and purposeful ones when you reflect back on the season.”
He added, “If done right those are really good. And our guys, did it right, well-intentioned.”
Following the meeting after losing to the Bucks, a meeting that lasted more than 30 minutes after the game, Stevens said they all agreed to continue talking more on Saturday.
“We spent another hour and a half in just a real … again, those are the moments in coaching you can’t explain,” he said. “That’s what it’s all about if it’s well-intentioned. If it’s not, it’s off the rails. It was the furthest from that; our guys are great. We just haven’t played as well as we want.”
And the timing came a day before Festivus which includes among other things, an airing of grievances.
“A lot of those meetings start off like Festivus, and they end with like hugs, right?” Stevens said. “It’s just like any other family meeting. That’s where we were. We never got to the feats of strength. We just ended Merry Christmas, wherever you are.”
