Celtics injury list continues to grow

After running down the five players that will sit out Monday’s game — Irving, Horford, Hayward, Yabusele, and Baynes — Stevens was asked for updates on all his wounded.

“One at a time,” he playfully requested.

The most concerning part that followed might have been on Horford, who has rested a sore left knee multiple games this season.

"Al has patellar tendinitis that he’s just been dealing with for a while,” said Stevens. "And so we’re going to see how this goes. He’s day-to-day right now but we may go slowly with him.”

Stevens seemed less concerned about Irving and the AC joint in his right shoulder he tweaked last week against the Knicks.

"Kyrie, I think, is going to fine long term and he felt a little bit of stiffness today so -- I would expect that he’ll be day-to-day,” said Stevens, who noted Irving did not undergo any further testing on the shoulder.

Hayward is merely out with illness. Baynes is closer to a return from the ankle injury he suffered against the Knicks but simply wasn’t ready to go.

"Ankle is better but not where we hoped he’d be to be able to play,” said Stevens.

Yabusele is expected to miss a few weeks with his own ankle sprain suffered against the Bulls on Saturday, but Stevens said there was a bit of positive news there.

"Not a high ankle sprain, which is good news,” said Stevens. "The window is going to be at least a few weeks. … He’s not even close to playing.”

Stevens said it’s next-man up for his now very undersized team.

"I think we already know a lot about the guys, some of the guys that are going to have to step up for us, they’ve done that before,” said Stevens. "But it’ll be good to learn about some of the guys that haven’t been in this situation -- Brad Wanamaker and Robert Williams. We called PJ [Dozier] up [from the Maine Red Claws] and, when we called PJ up at 11 o’clock this morning, he was 11th or 12th [on the rotation], but now he’s 10th. Knock on wood, as we go throughout the game, hopefully he doesn’t move up too much.

"It’s a great opportunity for all those guys. That’s what the NBA -- you go to bed one night and you’re not in the rotation, the next morning you wake up, you better be ready to play.”
