"Game of Thrones" mania is sweeping the nation, as the pop culture sensation entered its eighth and final season just over a week ago. And, as expected, references to the show have leaked into plenty of sports arenas and onto team accounts on social media.
The Boston Celtics got creative on Monday night on their Twitter account, and they posted this picture of center Aron Baynes, accenting his reddish beard and including a quote from the latest episode of the hit show.
The reference compares Baynes to the character of Tormund Giantsbane, a wildling warrior who (spoiler alert) teams up with Jon Snow to help defend the wall against white walkers. The comparison is a strong one, as the two have some striking similarities.
Both Baynes and Giantsbane are big, physical defenders, Baynes in the paint and Giantsbane against the army of the dead. And, of course, both are characterized by their full, red beards.
Props to the Celtics' social media team for coming up with this comparison, as it's a solid one. Hopefully, both Baynes and Giantsbane will continue strongly in their roles as their respective series progress.
