Smart voted to NBA All-Defensive First team for second straight season

Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart added another achievement to his résumé Tuesday.

Smart was voted to the NBA's 2019-20 All-Defensive first team -- the second straight season he's received this honor.

Smart was an easy pick for the first team. He's the heart and soul of the Celtics with his elite defensive play and energy. Smart defends all five positions, takes charges, consistently locks down the opposing teams' best perimeter player and much more.

Celtics guard Jaylen Brown and forward Jayson Tatum received votes for the All-Defensive second team.

Joining the C's guard on the All-Defensive first team are Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo, Los Angeles Lakers center Anthony Davis, Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert, and Philadelphia 76ers guard Ben Simmons.

The All-Defensive second team consists of Miami Heat center Bam Adebayo, Los Angeles Clippers guard Patrick Beverley and forward Kawhi Leonard, and Bucks guard Eric Bledsoe and center Brook Lopez.

Antetokounmpo was named Defensive Player of the Year last month. Smart finished sixth in the voting for that award.

Smart and the Celtics will resume their Eastern Conference semifinals series versus the Toronto Raptors with Game 6 on Wednesday night.
