After agreeing to terms to re-sign Aron Baynes on the first day of NBA free agency, the Boston Celtics officially signed Brad Wanamaker to a one-year contract Monday.
Wanamaker, 27, spent the last seven seasons playing in Europe after going undrafted in 2011. The 6-4 guard averaged 11.5 points, 2.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists, while shooting over 45 percent from the field and 35 percent from three.
The signing marks the third time in the last two summers Boston has acquired veteran players from overseas. Last season they signed Shane Larkin and Daniel Theis to minimum contracts. Both players provided Brad Stevens with reliable depth at the end of the bench, something he was forced to utilize as the Celtics fell victim to numerous injuries.
Wanamaker drew interest from Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Orlando and Miami. He will wear No. 9, most notably worn by Rajon Rondo, who signed a one-year deal with the Los Angeles Lakers Monday.
