Celtics president ‘gladly' would open the checkbook for Jayson Tatum

The Boston Celtics signed Jaylen Brown to a massive contract extension in October. Is Jayson Tatum next?

If the 21-year-old's development continues at this rate, the answer to that question seems like it'd be an emphatic "yes." In fact, Boston apparently already is prepared to open up the checkbook for its 2017 No. 3 overall draft pick.

Former Celtics great Cedric Maxwell took to Twitter on Wednesday to share a conversation he had with C's president Rich Gotham, who told Maxwell he'd "gladly" write the big check to keep Tatum in Green and White for years to come.

It's clear the Celtics are thrilled with Tatum's production, and rightfully so. He's taken a huge step forward in Year 3 of his NBA career with 21.5 points and 6.9 rebounds per game thus far.

Tatum is scheduled to become a restricted free agent in 2021.
