Celtics reportedly among teams interested in signing French center Vincent Poirier

Celtics reportedly among teams interested in signing French center Vincent Poirier

With Aron Baynes gone, Al Horford potentially signing elsewhere and Daniel Theis possibly leaving as well, the Celtics are left searching for some rim protectors.

They're apparently looking beyond the United States as they're among teams interested in signing French big man Vincent Poirier, per Keith Smith of Yahoo Sports.

Poirier wouldn't be the first center from overseas to sign with Boston. Theis did so in 2017, but now the 27-year-old is scheduled to hit free agency.

Smith sees Poirier as a potential Theis replacement.

Poirier played for Baskonia of the EuroLeague in 2018-19 averaging 10.6 points and 7.2 rebounds over 73 games. The 6-foot-11, 235-pounder participated in the NBA Summer League with the Magic in 2016 and did so again with the Nets in 2017.

The C's reportedly were interested in signing Poirier back in April, but he had no interest in being a bench player. Considering the state of the Celtics roster right now, the 25-year-old could see a fair amount of minutes if Boston does indeed ink him to a deal.

Celtics center Enes Kanter to wear Kyrie Irving's old No. 11 jersey

Celtics center Enes Kanter to wear Kyrie Irving's old No. 11 jersey

The Boston Celtics didn't wait long to give out Kyrie Irving's No. 11 jersey.

Irving left the Celtics in NBA free agency to sign a four-year, $141 million max contract with the Brooklyn Nets earlier this month. The superstar point guard was at the center of the team chemistry issues that appeared to plague the C's throughout a disappointing 2018-19 season, and many fans were not sad to see him leave.

His No. 11 now belongs to newly acquired Celtics center Enes Kanter. Kanter had hinted he was going to wear the number by making it his Twitter profile picture, but it was made official Wednesday before Kemba Walker's introductory press conference at the Auerbach Center.

Kanter signed a reported two-year, $10 million deal with the Celtics as part of Boston's new-look frontcourt that's undergone several changes since last season. The 27-year-old center is not afraid to speak his mind and has received praise for being a great teammate. It probably won't take long for him to become a fan favorite in Boston, if he hasn't already.

Enes Kanter officially signs Celtics contract, sends uplifting message to fans

Enes Kanter officially signs Celtics contract, sends uplifting message to fans

Enes Kanter seems pumped about joining the Boston Celtics, but until Wednesday, he wasn't technically a member of the C's.

That changed just after noon ET, as the Celtics announced they've officially signed the free-agent big man.

Kanter's deal reportedly is worth $10 million over two years, as he joins point guard Kemba Walker on an overhauled Celtics roster following the departures of Kyrie Irving, Al Horford, Marcus Morris and Terry Rozier in free agency.

The 27-year-old, tweeted out a video of him signing the contract at the Auerbach Center in Boston, telling fans his signing is "the first step to a championship."

Kanter, who will wear No. 11 for the Celtics, comes to Boston after averaging 13.7 points and 9.7 rebounds per game last season between the New York Knicks and Portland Trail Blazers.

"Enes demands a lot of attention on the glass at both ends,” Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said in a statement. “His ability to get easy baskets in the paint is a problem for opponents. I believe he has a chance to progress as a perimeter shooter.”
