Celtics Talk: Exclusive interview with Robert Williams

Share

Robert Williams is one of the most exciting players on the Boston Celtics roster.

One of the reasons for that is the exceptional athleticism the young center displays on a nightly basis. It's among the factors that helped him block a Celtics playoff record nine shots in Game 1 of the team's first-round playoff series against the Brooklyn Nets last Friday. It was one of the best defensive performances by any Celtic in a long time.

Another source of excitement is the overall potential that Williams shows. He's already a very good defender in Year 3, and it wouldn't be surprising at all if he gets to a level where All-Defensive teams are a yearly honor for him.

In the latest episode of the Celtics Talk Podcast, our insider Chris Forsberg had an exclusive interview with Williams. One of the questions asked of Time Lord was whether he sees himself getting to that All-Defensive level, similar to teammate Marcus Smart.

"Yeah, for sure. I definitely look at me and Smart as kind of the anchors of our defense as far as like quarterbacks who see everything and try to talk (to teammates) about it, "Williams said. "I feel I have (All-Defensive) player potential, but there's a lot of work I've got to do."

Williams is contract extension-eligible this summer, and as a young big man with enormous potential -- especially on the defensive end of the floor -- it would behoove the C's to try to get something done that makes sense for both sides.

Does Williams see Boston as a place where he'd like to grow as a player and be part of the core?

Williams noted "I feel like we've got something good going in Boston." He also mentioned how a lot of the guys are friends on and off the floor and spend time with each other away from court, before adding, "It's a great organization. So I could definitely see that."

Also in the new episode: Forsberg is joined by NBC 10's Kwani Lunis to break down Kyrie Irving's comments about Celtics fans, plus his time in Boston.
