Celtics Talk Podcast: Can Jaylen Brown, Jayson Tatum and Gordon Hayward co-exist?

Share

The Boston Celtics have endured a bad week. The team is on their first three-game losing streak of the 2019-20 campaign and is currently struggling badly on offense.

The C's have only shot a combined 39.7 percent from the field in their last three contests. They've scored fewer than 100 points in two of the three games after being held to fewer than 100 points just four times in their first 33 games.

And a lot of their struggles have to do with the inconsistent performance of their wings. Jaylen Brown, Gordon Hayward, and Jayson Tatum have had rough outings over the course of the last three games and now, some are questioning whether or not the trio can truly co-exist.

On the latest episode of the "Celtics Talk Podcast", A. Sherrod Blakely, Kyle Draper, and Chris Forsberg discussed the Celtics' offensive woes and weighed in on the debate surrounding Brown, Hayward, and Tatum.

Forsberg noted that the one thing lacking from the three wings' game is that despite their All-Star-level skill sets, the trio hasn't been consistent. And that has hurt the team.

On a night-to-night basis, I don't know what Gordon Hayward is gonna be. I don't know what Jaylen Brown is gonna shoot. I don't know if Jayson Tatum is gonna finish around the rim. And so I still think there's another step for those guys to go if they're gonna be in that conversation.

Blakely responded and noted that from Brown and Tatum, ups and downs are expected. But Hayward's inability to mesh recently has been "more frustrating."

I think right now for those guys [Brown and Tatum] this is part of the growing process for them. But for Gordon, it's a little more frustrating. He should be better than this.

Of course, Hayward has dealt with a number of injuries since coming to Boston, and that has played a role as well. And Blakely, Draper, and Forsberg acknowledged that the wings could just be in a funk and if they snap out of it, the Celtics could be in great shape.

In short, the trend is a bit concerning, but it's still far too early to hit the panic button.
