Celtics Talk Podcast: Will Jaylen Brown or Jayson Tatum make the All-Star team?

Share

The Boston Celtics have been one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference, so it shouldn't be a surprise to see them land some coveted spots on the East's All-Star team.

That said, the big question is currently about whether they will get two or three spots. And if they only get two, who will be left off?

In all likelihood, it seems that the Celtics will be getting Kemba Walker on the team. He ranks third in votes at the guard position and barely trails Kyrie Irving in the fan vote.

But Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown? Their respective cases are a bit tougher to untangle.

On the latest episode of the Celtics Talk Podcast, Chris Forsberg, Kyle Draper, and A. Sherrod Blakely offered their thoughts on whether Brown, Tatum, both, or neither would qualify for the All-Star game.

Forsberg stated that because it's so difficult to choose between the two, one may get snubbed because of the limited spots available.

I think they've had very similar seasons. It's almost hard to pull them apart and break them apart other than to look at their base stat lines and say 'Well, Jaylen has been more efficient with his shot but Tatum [clearly] has more of an impact on the on/off numbers'. So, I wonder how it will play out. One of those guys could be snubbed and not because they don't deserve to be there but because the balloting limits the spots.

Blakely agreed with him and pointed out that every year, a few players end up missing the team despite being deserving candidates.

Every year when you're looking at those All-Star reserves and there's seven guys chosen, there's usually five or six other guys who weren't chosen but are just as deserving. And I think that Jaylen Brown is going to wind up in that boat.

Blakely did bring up the fact that Brown would likely be the first injury replacement chosen by commissioner Adam Silver in the event that he doesn't get in, but it's looking difficult for the Celtics to realistically have a shot at getting three All-Stars

Hear more from Blakely, Draper, and Forsberg about Kemba Walker's chances of being an All-Star starter and whether or not the Celtics still need a big man with the emergence of Enes Kanter on the latest episode of the "Celtics Talk Podcast", which drops every Thursday as part of the NBC Sports Boston podcast network.
