The Philadelphia 76ers had proven to be a difficult matchup for the Boston Celtics in their previous two meetings earlier in the 2020-21 season, both Celtics losses.
The C's were hoping to flip the script on the Sixers and extend their winning streak to three games on Tuesday night. Instead, they saw more of the same.
Though the game was close through much of the first quarter-plus of the game, the 76ers went on a 22-3 run to pull away from the Celtics and extend their lead to double digits. From there, Boston was unable to push back into the game and fell by a final score of 106-96.
Unsurprisingly, Joel Embiid led the charge for the Sixers. He posted 35 points and the C's couldn't do anything to stop him. Robert Williams picked up six fouls in 14 minutes of action. Jayson Tatum had a solid 20-point game, but the 76ers defense had a terrific game.
This marks just the fourth time in franchise history that the Celtics have been swept in a season series by the 76ers. The last came during the 2000-01 season when Rick Pitino was the C's coach before being replaced by Jim O'Brien.
Here are the highlights from the C's loss that drops them below the .500 mark once again.
FINAL SCORE: 76ers 106, Celtics 96
CELTICS' RECORD: 25-26
