The Boston Celtics will close their preseason schedule against Kevin Durant, Kyrie Irving and the Brooklyn Nets in a Friday night matchup at TD Garden.
There are a few reasons why this game is a little more anticipated than a typical preseason contest.
For starters, it's the first time the Nets will play the Celtics with both Irving and Durant healthy and in the lineup since they signed with Brooklyn as free agents in the summer of 2019. Irving infamously left the C's to join the Nets that offseason. Durant missed all of the 2019-20 campaign recovering from a torn Achilles suffered in the 2019 NBA Finals with the Golden State Warriors.
This game also is the Celtics' return to TD Garden, where they haven't played since before the COVID-19 pandemic halted the 2019-20 season. The Celtics' last game at TD Garden was a March 8 defeat to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
It's possible we could see the starters play extended minutes because this is both teams' final game before the regular season begins next week.
