The Boston Celtics lost a beloved member of their family on Monday when the legendary Tommy Heinsohn passed away at the age of 86.
There was an outpouring of support from players and personalities across the NBA in the wake of Heinsohn's death. Celtics president Danny Ainge added to the countless tributes with a heartfelt tweet about Heinsohn on Thursday.
"Tommy Heinsohn was the Mr Celtic of my lifetime," Ainge wrote. "64 yrs in many capacities, influencing so many and entertaining all Celtics fans! I will always remember and cherish his kindness and his laughter. His passion was contagious, his huge personality was inspirational RIP#15"
Heinsohn helped the Celtics to eight NBA championships as a player, then another two as head coach. He later enjoyed nearly 40 years as a C's broadcaster. Heinsohn is one of only four people to be enshrined in the Basketball Hall of Fame as both a player and a coach.
