Dennis Schroder is outsourcing his first big decision as a member of the Boston Celtics -- in rather unique fashion.

Schroder has worn No. 17 in each of his four previous NBA stops. But No. 17 is retired in Boston for all-time leading scorer John Havlicek, and with 21 other numbers already hanging in the TD Garden rafters, the new Celtics point guard will have to choose his next number wisely.

So, Schroder is letting the people decide. The veteran point guard used his app -- yes, Schroder has his own app called DS17 -- to let fans vote on what number he should wear in Boston.

The five choices are ... interesting.

There's a lot to unpack here. First, Schroder clearly loves No. 17, as the Germany native will end the vote on Sept. 17 at "17:17" German time. (That's 11:17 a.m. ET, for the record.)

Second, No. 38 apparently was the fans' most popular choice, but Schroder is passing that up because Sam Hauser -- who's on a two-way contract with Boston and likely will spend most of the upcoming season in Maine -- already took it. (Something tell us Dennis and Sam could probably work something out.)

Finally, these are some wild options if Schroder doesn't take the No. 8 previously worn by Kemba Walker. He'd be the first Celtics player ever to wear No. 71, No. 80, No. 84 or No. 96, and just the 15th C's player to wear a jersey number higher than 70.

We wouldn't mind Schroder adopting an unorthodox number, though, and 71 seems like a natural choice based on his affinity for 17. If you agree, just download his app and cast your vote before Friday.
