Gordon Hayward (illness) misses practice, Robert Williams and Romeo Langford making progress

BOSTON — Boston Celtics second-year big man Robert Williams went through the non-contact portion of practice Monday and should be cleared for full-contact activities Tuesday if he responds well.

Williams has been navigating the league’s return-to-action protocol after suffering concussion-like symptoms after getting elbowed in the head last week during Boston’s preseason finale. He engaged in 1-on-1 work with fellow big men after Monday’s practice.

Rookie Romeo Langford also did some non-contact work Monday with hopes he’ll soon be able to return to full practice activities. Rookie Tacko Fall sat out Monday’s workout and has entered the league’s concussion protocol.

Gordon Hayward also missed practice Tuesday due to illness.

“[Hayward] may come in later and see [team doctors] but he started feeling under the weather Saturday night. Thought he was better Sunday morning but it got worse last night and told him to stay away,” said Celtics coach Brad Stevens.

The Celtics are hoping Williams could be cleared to be available for Wednesday’s season-opener in Philadelphia if he doesn’t suffer any setbacks the next two days.

Stevens said the 7-foot-7 Fall’s head injury was a “freak thing,” but Fall was on the court observing team activities on Monday.
