Gordon Hayward injury: Brad Stevens details Celtics star's foot ailment

The Boston Celtics somehow managed to get significantly less healthy during their five days off.

The Celtics ruled Gordon Hayward out of Wednesday's game against the Dallas Mavericks due to a foot injury, head coach Brad Stevens confirmed on 98.5 The Sports Hub's "Zolak & Bertrand."

Marcus Smart, Robert Williams and Vincent Poirier already were on Boston's injured list, but Hayward's foot injury was somewhat of a surprise considering he's played in Boston's last three games.

Stevens revealed Wednesday that Hayward has been dealing with the foot injury since before he injured his hand in early November.

"He's had a sore foot for a while early on, and then when he was out with the hand, they treated it and felt better about it," Stevens told "Zolak & Bertrand."

The Celtics' training staff examined Hayward's foot last Friday, per Stevens, who said the 29-year-old was a "game-time decision" for Wednesday's game before Boston ruled him out.

Hayward has been solid for the Celtics this season, averaging 17.5 points, 6.1 rebounds and 4.1 assists. He's already missed 13 of Boston's 25 games, though, so it's worth monitoring whether this foot injury lingers.
