Habershow podcast: Chris Mullin on Dream Team memories with Larry Bird and Michael Jordan

On this week’s Habershow podcast, with NBC Sports Network re-airing classic games from the 1992 Olympic Dream Team, a member of that team, Chris Mullin, joined NBC Sports NBA Insider Tom Haberstroh and had plenty of stories of playing with fellow Hall of Famers Michael Jordan and Larry Bird.

One Bird story, in particular, comes from the scrimmages the team held against top college players before leaving for the Games. It's a time where Bird's trash talk failed to intimidate an opponent. The college team actually beat the Dream Team in a scrimmage.

Haberstroh recalls the story of Bird and Chris Webber, then about to enter the NBA Draft after being part of Michigan's "Fab Five" in college, riding together in a limo the night before the game in La Jolla, Calif. And Bird told Webber, "by the way, get some sleep because I'm going to bust your ass tomorrow. And Webber's like, 'All right. Let's go.' "

Webber proceeded to dominate the Dream Teamers in the scrimmage, Mullin confirmed, and said when the draft rolled around and Warriors coach and GM Don Nelson was considering who to pick, Mullin said he told him, "All I know is that this guy Webber was the best player on the court that day."

Although Mullin was quick to point out, "Michael didn't play that day."

That story comes at about the 26 1/2-minute mark. You can listen and subscribe the Habershow podcast here:
