Isaiah Thomas predicts success for Kemba Walker with Celtics, Brad Stevens

Isaiah Thomas is confident Kemba Walker will be a good fit with the Boston Celtics after they reportedly agreed to a four-year, $141 million max contract with the Charlotte Hornets point guard in NBA free agency Sunday night.

Thomas, who became an All-Star and MVP candidate playing under C's head coach Brad Stevens from 2014-15 through 2016-17, expects plenty of success will be enjoyed by Walker in Stevens' system in Boston. The former Celtics explained why in an interview with NBC Sports Boston on Sunday night. Thomas was participating in a Guardian event at Hoopfest to demonstrate its “Disability Is Not Inability” efforts.

“(It’s) an open opportunity system," Thomas said. "Brad puts you in position to be successful no matter who you are. If the reports are true and Kemba is a Celtic, he is going to have a hell of a time there."

Walker could fit in Boston's offense much like Thomas did as the team's primary scorer, someone who's very effective in pick-and-rolls and an underrated passer not afraid to get his teammates involved.

The 29-year-old guard comes to Boston after a fantastic season in 2018-19 during which he averaged a career-high 25.6 points per game and finished second in the league in clutch scoring behind Houston Rockets star James Harden.
