Jaylen Brown explains backstory to viral ‘jail' tweet: ‘You never forget it'

There are "Freezing Cold Takes," and then there's the prediction Jaylen Brown's teacher made nearly five years ago.

That prediction couldn't have been more wrong, as the Celtics forward celebrated its five-year anniversary by posterizing NBA MVP favorite Giannis Antetokounmpo during Boston's impressive Game 1 win over the Milwaukee Bucks.

Brown's old tweet quickly went viral, to the point where he still was answering questions about it a day later.

"When somebody says something like that, you never really forget it," Brown said Monday at the Celtics' shootaround in Milwaukee, via NBC Sports Boston's Chris Forsberg. "Something like that you hang onto. I don't really want to get into what happened, because I'm going to leave it in the past where it belongs, but it's true.

"In Georgia, our education system isn't the best, so I don't put too much blame on teachers. It is what it is. But one teacher handling 35 kids in one class, it's tough. There's a lot of teachers who go through stuff and take a lot of crap all day, so who knows what was going through her mind that day when she said that."

The Marietta, Ga., native insisted he wasn't trying to draw attention to himself with the tweet -- which he sent when he was 17 years old -- and didn't expect it to resurface five years later.

"To be honest, I moved on from it a long time ago," Brown added. "My family, the school, they dealt with it when it happened. So, we moved on from it a long time ago. Stuff like that adds fuel to the fire, and then when it resurfaces it adds more fuel to the fire. But it's in the past.

"I don't even look at it as a negative, you know what I mean? Or looking to give it back to the teacher. I'm just trying to be the best version of myself."

The 22-year-old certainly did that Sunday, dropping 19 points as a playoff starter for the surging Celtics. So, while he's not concerned with a harsh prediction from five years ago, he's still relishing in proving it wrong.

"I guess I would be getting out of jail tomorrow," Brown said with a laugh. "... I'll leave it in the past where it belongs, but it's definitely a really cool moment to be where I am now. Five years ago -- who would've thought?"
