Tatum responds to Biles criticism with supportive tweet

Jayson Tatum came to Simone Biles' defense on Tuesday after a radio host criticized the decorated American gymnast for withdrawing from the Tokyo 2020 Olympics team final for mental health reasons.

The Boston Celtics star quote tweeted a clip of Charlie Kirk calling Biles "a shame to the country" among other things. He didn't hold back in his response.

"Is it that hard to be supportive and empathetic to what others are going through?" Tatum wrote. "This is someone’s daughter and her health your referring to. Wonder if he has kids and how he would feel as a parent someone talking about his kids this way. Cause I’d be DAMNED. Simone is a hero!"

Tatum is far from the only athlete to show support for Biles following Tuesday's events. Minnesota Timberwolves star Karl-Anthony Towns, former Olympic figure skater Adam Rippon, and NFL punter-turned-media personality Pat McAfee were among the many who responded positively to Biles' decision.

Biles stayed to cheer on her teammates as Team USA fell to Russia in the team final and claimed the silver medal.
